GUETTIER
The "free" wines from Loire by Guettier
Secular vineyards and new vineyards for mass selection. Chenin and Pineau D'Aunis in an authentic and free key, zero intervention vinification with long aging in old wood. Oxidations, Botrites, ancestral sparkling wines. Everything is magic when you start from a large grape of a large territory. Renaud Guettier is a young vigneron from the Loire, who has restored old vineyards of Chenin, Groleau, Gamay and Pineau d'Aunis.
The territory of Bueil en Touraine has for centuries been linked to the cultivation of the vineyard, on clay soil mixed with silica-based stones, above the mother rock made up of limestone. The typical configuration of this area is the hill with slight slopes on which the vineyards are cultivated and under which the cellars are dug, real cuniculums created with pickaxes (still today) in the limestone.
The grapes are cultivated in biodynamic, with a limited use of copper and sulfur and nothing but a meticulous care plant by plant. The yields are low, in particular from the centuries-old vineyards. The soil is grassed and worked mechanically, the containment of weeds is manual. The vineyards are surrounded by pastures and woods in a perfect balance of biodiversity. The grapes are brought to the cellar by gravity, de-stemmed and vinified in steel vats and then passed into old barriques (if not very old!) For very long aging ranging from two to five or more years in which the wine remains on the fine lees to rest until the final pouring into the cuve before bottling.
The wines of Renaud are as direct as he, and I express the grape variety, the territory and the season with a great freedom, with an important variability in the evolution of each label, dry, oxidized, botrytized, but all with an impressive structure and a personality that will leave its mark after every taste.
