LA MISION
La Mision, natural wines from Cile
La Mision is a Chilean winery located in the Maule Valley region, an area where viticulture was introduced by Spanish missionaries in the 1550s. The winery was founded in 2016 by Elena Pantaleoni (a vine grower from La Stoppa) and Nicola Massa, with the "mission" of preserving the ancient free-range vines of the paìs grape, the oldest and most widely planted variety in Chile.
The 4 hectares of vines are cultivated using sustainable methods that fully respect the surrounding terroir: from the use of horses for ploughing, to destemming by hand on the zaranda, a wooden destemmer placed above the lagar (a typical raulì wood container), where fermentation begins spontaneously, with a long maceration on the skins, and ends with ageing in used barriques.
La Mision currently produces only one label, Pisador, a red wine made from the pure Pais grape, born from the idea of producing a red wine for long ageing and enhancing the characteristics of the Pais grape and the area to which it belongs.
