LANCELOT ET FILS
Lancelot et Fils, great Champagne of Avize
On the picturesque hill of Avize, majestically rising in the renowned Côte des Blancs, lies the oenological gem known as Maison de Champagne Lancelot et Fils. Avize, one of the five legendary villages classified as Grand Cru in the Champagne region, is more than a picturesque wine village; it is the pulsating heart of a tradition spanning generations.
Guided with passion and mastery by Hubert Lancelot, a warm-hearted and vibrant winemaker, the Maison embodies the legacy of a family devoted to the relentless pursuit of terroir. The unmistakable signature of the house is adorned with a wide range of champagnes, each an ode to the distinctive character of the vineyards that give them life, along with the refined ratafia, a sweet traditional liqueur wine of Champagne.
The beginning of this extraordinary winemaking saga dates back to the '30s when Jean Lancelot, the great-grandfather of the current vineyard custodian, emerged as a traveling "bouilleur de cru," distilling the fruits of the land for Goyard in Ay. Enterprising and visionary, Jean decided to cultivate his vineyards, paving the way for a story destined to become legendary.
In the tumultuous decade of the '60s, Hubert's grandfather, Daniel Lancelot, abandoned his career as head winemaker at Henriot to dedicate himself exclusively to the art of champagne. He created Maison "Champagne Lancelot Daniel" with his life companion Geneviève. Their residence in Cramant, with a cellar carved into the chalk capable of housing 200,000 bottles, became the beating heart of constant growth through the acquisition of new vineyards and lands.
Claude Lancelot, Hubert's father, chose to continue the tradition, founding his own Maison in Avize in 1981 with his wife Nadine, sealing his legacy with the recognizable "Champagne Claude Lancelot" and "Champagne Lancelot Fils." After Claude's untimely passing in 2012, Hubert and his mother took the reins, continuing the work with dedication until 2015 when they decided to consolidate the brand under the emblem "Champagne Lancelot Fils" and introduce new cuvées with distinctive styles.
Since then, Hubert has channeled his passion and expertise into modernizing tools, adopting precision viticulture that respects the environment. His goal? To create quality wines that tell the authentic story of the terroir, carrying the unmistakable character of Maison de Champagne Lancelot et Fils. In every sip, one feels the fusion of tradition and innovation, a tribute to the past that exudes vitality in the present and promises a brilliant future in the effervescent universe of Champagne.
