MICHEL GAHIER
Michel Gahier's Domaine is located in the centre of the village of Montigny-les-Arsures, near the town of Arbois in the Jura. The decision to settle here came about because this is the best area in the entire region for the production of Trousseau grapes.
Michel took over his father's land and immediately decided to turn what had until then been traditional French agriculture with crops, some livestock and a vineyard into a real winery.
Today, Michel manages 7 hectares of vineyards around the village, 3 of which are planted with Trousseau and the rest with Chardonnay, Melon le Queue Rouge and Savagnin.
The age of the vines varies between 25 and 80 years, with subsoils consisting of white, blue and red marl for Trousseau and limestone and clay for Chardonnay, Melon le Queue Rouge and Savagnin. Michael Gahier is a quiet but talented vigneron who meticulously tends his vines and carefully monitors his wines during maturation. He has never used chemicals and has put organic and biodynamic farming principles into practice from the very beginning.
According to Michel, his soils are so fertile and the vines so healthy that the wine produces itself, simply helping to bring out the true qualities of the Arbois terroir. His Domaine has become a reference in the field of natural viticulture in the Jura.
