MICKAEL BOURG
Mickaël Bourg, wines of Cornas
After working as a mechanic, Mickaël Bourg decided to turn his life completely upside down by making wine. The first vintage came out in 2006, from vines rented from Matthieu Barret.
Mickaël's wines are mainly produced in the Cornas appellation, one of the smallest in the Rhone Valley, known for its red wines made exclusively from Syrah grapes. In this area, the terroir is very particular, the vines grow on steep slopes and the soils are difficult to work.
In this context, Mickaël produces wines that are faithful to the local tradition: fermentation is spontaneous using indigenous yeasts, while the wines are aged in wood for a period of 14 to 18 months. In addition to the wines of Cornas, Mickaël also produces a Saint-Péray AOC, another small appellation in the northern Rhône.
