MUSELLA
Musella, biodynamics in Valpolicella
Cantina Musella is a beacon of biodynamic viticulture in Valpolicella, managing to combine tradition and modernity. Founded in the mid-1990s by Emilio Pasqua Di Bisceglie, the winery is located in San Martino Buon Albergo, on the eastern edge of the city of Verona, within a 16th-century rural courtyard. Emilio, together with his daughter Maddalena Pasqua Di Bisceglie and cousin Enrico Raber, form a passionate family team that operates with the utmost respect for the environment and its delicate balance.
The Vineyards and the Terroir
Musella's 25 hectares of vineyards are spread over three main hills: Monte Drago, Perlar and Palazzina. Monte Drago has tuff and clay soils, Perlar is characterized by red clay, and Palazzina combines tuff and red clay. These vineyards, located between 650 and 700 meters above sea level, benefit from optimal west and southwest exposure. Agronomic management strictly follows biodynamic principles, certified by Demeter, and involves the use of local varieties such as Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, Oseleta, Croatina and Garganega, along with Barbera, Pinot Bianco, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Philosophy and Vinification
Musella's winemaking approach aims to minimize intervention while respecting the character of the terroir. Fermentations take place with indigenous yeasts at low natural temperatures and involve long macerations for the reds. The winery uses a combination of containers, including cement tanks, barriques, tonneaux and large oak barrels, to best enhance the characteristics of each wine.
Production and Wines
Musella's production includes labels that represent an unbreakable bond with Valpolicella, such as Amarone, Valpolicella Superiore and Ripasso. Each wine expresses the typicality of the territory, characterized by the fragrance of the fruit and expressive directness.
The Estate and the Relais
In addition to wine production, the Musella estate offers the opportunity to stay in the adjoining Relais, nestled in the vineyards of Valpolicella. The structure, a carefully restored former stable of the noble palace, is now a valuable space for barrels and the winery, equipped with the latest technology.
Musella is not just a winery, but an example of how tradition, innovation and sustainability can coexist harmoniously, creating wines that tell a story of passion, respect for nature and excellent quality.
Sustainability and Biodynamics
Musella has been following the biodynamic method since 2009, a choice dictated by love and respect for the earth. This approach, inspired by Rudolf Steiner's holistic philosophy, views the farm as an integrated living organism. Biodiversity is at the heart of this practice, with a focus on the use of homeopathic preparations and the creation of a balanced and sustainable environment.
