Palari Winery is an iconic name in Sicilian winemaking, renowned for enhancing the territory of the Faro appellation, located in the northeastern tip of the island. The winery is led by Salvatore Geraci, a passionate and charismatic producer who embarked on this oenological adventure in 1990 with the goal of saving and revitalizing the Faro appellation. An architect by training, Geraci has been able to combine his multifaceted nature with a deep knowledge of the territory, while maintaining strong ties to the ancient winemaking traditions of Messina.
The winery's headquarters are located in the Geraci family's historic 18th-century villa in Santo Stefano Briga, in the province of Messina. This is where all production processes take place, from vinification to aging, in an environment that exudes history and passion for wine.
The Palari estate's 7 hectares of vineyards are situated on terraces overlooking the Strait of Messina, on steep hillsides with slopes of up to 70 percent and altitudes reaching 600 meters above sea level. The climate is typically Mediterranean, with sea winds and large temperature ranges between day and night, which contribute to a unique and favorable microclimate for viticulture.
In the Palari vineyards, bush-trained vines are cultivated with great care, using native grape varieties such as Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and Nocera, as well as rare varieties such as Acitana, Galatena, Jacché and Core 'e Palumba. The winemaking approach is rigorous and respectful of tradition, with spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel tanks and aging in Tronçais and Allier oak barrels. The Faro Palari ages in new barriques, while the Rosso del Soprano uses second-passage barriques. All wines are made without clarification or filtration to preserve the expressive purity of terroir.
The winery's flagship label is Faro Palari, an elegant and complex red with extraordinary longevity, considered among the greatest Sicilian wines. Alongside Faro Palari, Rosso del Soprano offers a more accessible but no less refined experience, with the same blend of grape varieties presented in a more immediate guise.
Salvatore Geraci's latest challenge is making wines on Mount Etna, where he owns two plots. Here he produces a white and a red of great quality, continuing to demonstrate his commitment to the enhancement of Sicilian terroirs.
