PETIT ROY
Domaine Petit Roy, young burgundy reality
Domaine Petit Roy is a small, young Burgundy winery located in Chorey Les Beaune. The winery was founded in 2016 by Seiichi Saito, a Chinese who grew up in Japan and decided to move to Burgundy following his greatest passion: wine.
After studying soils for years, he approached the world of wine and in 2005 began his first internship in a winery in Japan. At 22, he decided to move to Burgundy where he worked at the Simon-Bize domaine and had the opportunity to gain experience and show his skills. He decided to stay in France and tried his hand at various wine-related activities, including opening the La Lune restaurant in Beaune.
However, his greatest desire is to produce wine, so in 2016 he decided to take the plunge and founded his Petit-Roy estate, consisting of a vineyard of just 1.3 hectares worked according to biodynamic methods with rudimentary equipment. Most of his red wines are made from whole bunches, and no new barrels are used for ageing to prevent the wood from overpowering the original characteristics of the grapes.
His wines have a nice structure and balance, and are very pleasant and drinkable. Seiichi has been able to demonstrate talent, precision and a good dose of instinct, elements that are difficult to find in such young wineries.
