RICHARD LEROY
Richard Leroy is an artisan winemaker from the Loire Valley whose wines, produced in very limited quantities, are sought after by wine lovers throughout France and beyond.
Richard used to run a grocery and French wine shop in Paris with his wife, but his passion for wine-tasting became more and more intense until he decided to settle in Rablay-sur-Layon in 1996, where he took over a small estate of only 3 hectares entirely dedicated to the Chenin grape.
The grapes come from two parcels from which he makes two cuvées: Les Rouliers from a 1-hectare parcel and Noëls de Montbenault from 2 hectares, all grown biodynamically. This former banker started from scratch in terms of experience, but his curiosity and desire to do well have made this passionate winemaker grow towards excellence.
Richard Leroy is already part of a very small circle of truly exceptional vignerons in the Loire, and his bottles are increasingly hard to find. Since 2008, he has decided to classify his wines as Vin de France (or table wine), the year of his divorce from the appellation authorities.
