Saint-Joseph 2021 Domaine de l'Iserand, Jean-François Malsert
Saint-Joseph 2021 from Domaine de l'Iserand, Jean-François Malsert, is a delightful Syrah wine from the Northern Rhône Valley. This small-production wine hails from a "garage" winery practicing natural farming and winemaking, plowing fields with horses and aging wine in amphorae. It's a well-crafted wine, elegant yet robust (after all, it's a Syrah), bursting with flavors of dark berries, firm tannins, and plenty of terroir.
This is a wine to revisit, to contemplate and savor slowly. Certified organic, practicing biodynamic agriculture, and minimal sulfur. This 2021 Saint-Joseph is a micro-production, stemming from a estate launched in 2011 with just one and a half hectares of vines from Jean-François Malsert's grandfather in the granite and schist-rich soils of Sécheras. Today, the estate spans four hectares, yielding three cuvées.
All vineyard work here follows biodynamic standards, and the wines are aged in neutral demi-muids and amphorae, with minimal sulfur additions, only at bottling.
