Sancerre Clos La Neore 2016 Edmond Vatan
This iconic wine from Sancerre in the Loire, produced by Edmond Vatan in very limited quantities, is made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes sourced from a small one-hectare plot of land, perhaps the finest vineyard in the Monts Damnès, whose Kimmeridgian soil is capable of completely cancelling out the important aromatic content of this grape variety.
This is a real artisanal wine produced using traditional methods that reflect the simplicity of Edmond and his daughter Anne: an old wooden press, fermentation with indigenous yeasts, large old barrels for ageing, no filtration, bottling under a full moon, bottles that look like mineral water bottles with wax seals and a minimal label.
The nose is striking for its oversized intensity and freshness, with vegetal hints typical of Sauvignon (freshly cut grass and mint), white and yellow flowers, hints of wild fennel and a hint of flint on the finish. The palate displays a wonderful harmony of richness and structure, elegance and tension, with a very long finish that plays on minerality, citrus and herbs.
This Sancerre Clos La Neore 2016 from Edmond Vatan is a real gem, a bottle of extreme value and rarity sought after by amateurs all over the world.
