Saumur Clos de Carmes 2020 Domaine Guiberteau
Saumur Blanc Clos de Carmes Monopole 2020 is a natural wine produced by domaine Guiberteau. The grapes come from one of the 9 known Clos on the Brézé hill, wholly owned by the estate, the Clos de Charmes monopole. The south-facing vineyard is located halfway up the slope, on the "belly" of the hill and covers about 2.60 hectares, of which only 0.8 hectares are used for bottling Clos de Carmes, while the rest is downgraded to Saumur Blanc base.
Fermentation with indigenous yeasts takes place in barrels (new and 1-2 years old oak), maturation on the fine lees takes place in barrels for a period of 18 months, and then the wine is aged in bottles for about a year. The 2020 Saumur Blanc Clos de Charmes Monopole is a fleshy, layered and complex white that impersonates damn well a white Burgundy grown on very rocky soils.
Complex bouquet of dried fruits, spices, yellow fruits and fragrant white flowers closes with a pungent, mineral finish. In the mouth it is very fresh, with the scents of the nose enriched by notes of candied fruit, and above all a lot of sapidity which is the main characteristic of Guiberteau's white wines, synonymous with quality and elegance.
