Saumur "Les Pouches" 2019 La Porte Saint Jean
Saumur Rouge Les Pouches 2019 is a French red wine made from Cabernet Franc grapes grown in the Loire region, in the commune of Saumur. The grapes come from the Les Pouches vineyard, from vines half over 70 years old and half over 20 years old, located on soils composed of quaternary limestone and silty sand on the surface.
Vinification takes place without stalks in conical vats of wood and cement to preserve the varietal aromas of Cabernet Franc. This is followed by aging for 24 months in new and 1st-2nd-3rd passage French oak barrels that impart toasted and spicy notes to the wine.
The nose opens with intense aromas of red fruits such as currant and raspberry, cherries in spirit and plum. Floral notes of violets blend with hints of black pepper, tobacco and licorice.
On the palate it is a full-bodied wine with soft, velvety tannins and good acidity that lends freshness. Red fruits return with a pleasant jammy sensation, accompanied by notes of dark chocolate, coffee and vanilla.
The finish is long and persistent, with mineral sensations that recall the sandiness of the terroir. A wine with a strong personality, perfect with red meats, aged cheeses and game.
