Savigny-Les-Beaune 2021 Petit Roy
The Savigny-Les-Beaune by Petit Roy is a true gem originating from a vineyard of only 0.16 hectares called 'Les Vermots'. The vines grow on clay and limestone soils, planted back in 1929. Characterized by a cooler climate and excellent drainage, this terroir provides optimal conditions for grape cultivation.
The grapes undergo a 3-day cold maceration followed by a 3-4 week whole-cluster maceration. Subsequently, the wine is aged in used barrels for 12 months, then allowed to rest in tanks for another 8 months. It's essential to note that throughout the entire production process, no clarifying agents or filtration are used, preserving the wine's purity and authenticity. Additionally, only a minimal amount of sulfur dioxide is employed, confirming the commitment to a natural and artisanal approach.
In contrast to the powerful 2020 vintage, this wine presents itself as open and fragrant right from the start. Notes of red roses, cinnamon, salt, cloves, star anise, and fennel pollen delicately emerge. Cherry notes follow, but it's the wonderful fragrance of spices that predominates, with a hint of chocolate. On the palate, this wine is agile, creamy, light, dreamy, and full of life. A blend of chocolate, strawberries, and raspberries delicately melds on the palate, almost weightless compared to the dense 2020 vintage. Smooth and sensual, with a creamy texture that is deep yet light. New layers unfold with hints of dehydrated blood orange and cherry skin. A truly special experience, with an immense perfume and tannins already fully integrated. This is truly an extraordinary wine that enchants the senses and leaves an indelible impression.
