Barolo Sperss 2017 Gaja
Gaja's Barolo Sperss represents one of the most celebrated interpretations of Nebbiolo, an indigenous variety of Piedmont. The wine comes from Gaja family vineyards located in Serralunga d'Alba, one of the most prestigious subzones of the Barolo appellation. This area is known for its unique terroir, characterized by markedly calcareous soils and an ideal microclimate, which help give the wine a particularly solid tannic structure and an unmistakable mineral character.
Cultivation of the vineyard follows strict and environmentally friendly principles, with careful plant management to ensure the best quality of the grapes. Harvesting is done manually in October, when the grapes reach optimal ripeness.
Vinification begins with maceration and fermentation in stainless steel to preserve the integrity of the aromas and encourage the extraction of polyphenols. This is followed by aging in barriques for about 12 months, and then in large barrels, which help enhance the complexity of the wine without overpowering its varietal characteristics. Finally, the wine matures in bottle for a further period to achieve perfect harmony and balance.
Gaja's Barolo Sperss shows a deep garnet red color with orange hues. On the nose, it offers a rich and complex bouquet, with notes of ripe red fruits, spices, chocolate and tobacco, enriched by earthy and mineral nuances. On the palate, it is powerful and structured, with firm, well-integrated tannins supporting a long, lingering finish. This is a wine of great depth and longevity, sublimely reflecting the character of Nebbiolo from Serralunga d'Alba.
Gaja's Barolo Sperss is an ideal companion for rich, structured dishes such as roasts, game and aged cheeses. We recommend decanting it before serving to allow the wine to best express its complexity and finesse.
