Trebbiano d'Abruzzo 2004 Emidio Pepe
Emidio Pepe's 2004 Trebbiano d'Abruzzo is considered one of Italy's finest white wines. Emidio Pepe's merit is that he has managed to create an elegant, rich, kaleidoscopic white wine, suitable for long ageing, from a neutral and unstructured grape variety such as Trebbiano.
At the basis of the production of such an expressive fine wine there is a winning combination of unique terroir and the meticulous work carried out by the Pepe family: between the sea and the mountains and on a clayey-calcareous soil grow the Trebbiano vines, with roots that by mechanical action reach deep into the soil and enrich the wine with a marked mineral component. Emidio Pepe, through great passion, precision and fifty years of experience in the vineyards, follows a type of viticulture that strongly respects the territory, in order to obtain authentic and artisanal wines.
The Emidio Pepe Trebbiano D'Abruzzo 2004 is vinified in the traditional way: the grapes are pressed with the feet, as in the past, and ferments spontaneously in vitrified cement tanks, where it remains to refine for a few months. It has an intense, slightly opaque straw yellow colour, while the nose offers a characteristic bouquet of ripe, dried yellow fruit, aromatic herbs and earthy notes. The taste is rich, elegant, distinctly mineral and very persistent.
