Vin de France Rouge Saint Jacques 2022 Maxime Magnon
Vin de France Rouge Saint Jacques 2022 is a red wine that showcases the expertise and precision of Maxime Magnon, a winemaker who has spent over a decade refining his craft. Influenced by the Beaujolais school of winemaking, particularly cold maceration and minimal sulfur usage, Magnon has developed a style that is distinctive for its digestibility, texture finesse, and remarkable flavor precision. Even though the wines now express the terroir with greater depth than in the past, Saint Jacques remains a unique creation in Corbières, thanks to its sophisticated approach.
This cuvée is an 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, and 10% Cinsault blend, sourced from old vines, aged between 40 and 100 years. These vines grow on limestone and schistous soils, which contribute to the wine's structure and complexity. The grapes are hand-harvested, and the fermentation occurs spontaneously with native yeasts. The wine undergoes maceration for 20 days in whole clusters in foudres, large wooden casks, where it develops its rich flavors and textures. A gentle pressing follows, and the wine is aged in foudres of previous wines, allowing it to mature before being blended two months prior to bottling.
The Vin de France Rouge Saint Jacques 2022 displays a vibrant nose with aromas of ripe cherries, wild strawberries, wildflowers, spices, and garrigue (Mediterranean scrubland). On the palate, it is fruity and powerful, offering a wonderful balance of depth and intensity, with the high altitude of the Hautes Corbières bringing freshness to the wine. This red wine reflects Maxime Magnon’s commitment to crafting wines that convey both the power and elegance of this unique terroir.
Saint Jacques is an expression of the land, offering both power and finesse with a deep connection to its origins. The wine is crafted with minimal intervention, allowing the natural qualities of the terroir to shine through, making it an ideal choice to enjoy with hearty dishes, grilled meats, or cheeses. A true tribute to the Corbières region, this wine embodies the character and authenticity of southern France.
