Véjade 2020 Domaine L'Anglore
Among the range of the master of artisanal Rhône Valley wines Eric Pfifferling, there is this 'Véjade' label, a red wine that surprises with its elegance and delicacy despite coming from an area of muscular red wines that is the southern Rhône Valley.
It is a blend of Grenache, Mourvedre, Syrah and Vacarresse grapes, all indigenous to the area and coming from marly soils near Nimes, on terraces where garrigue is present.
In the South of France, garrigue is the mix of herbs and shrubs that grow on the area's calcareous soils, which give wines typical aromas such as thyme, lavender, myrtle and juniper. What in France is called garrigue, in Italy we would call 'macchia mediterranea'.
The Véjade 2020 ferments spontaneously with 15 days' maceration on the skins and matures for 10 months in barrels. Intense ruby red in colour, it expresses fruity aromas of blackberries, figs, flowers and spices such as rhubarb and cinnamon, for a deep yet elegant sip.
