"Versante Est" 2022 Carricante Eduardo Torres Acosta
Versante Est Carricante is a white wine produced by Eduardo Torres Acosta using mainly the native Sicilian grape Carricante, which makes up at least 80% of the blend. Other grapes, such as Catarratto and Minnella, may be added in small quantities to add further complexity to the wine.
The vineyards for Versante Est Carricante are located on the eastern slope of Mount Etna, Sicily. The terroir is characterized by volcanic and mineral-rich soils, with altitudes ranging from 600 to 1,000 meters above sea level. The eastern exposure allows the grapes to benefit from more sun exposure, promoting fuller ripening.
Vinification of Versante Est Carricante involves careful selection of the best grapes, followed by spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in cement or stainless steel tanks. Maceration on the skins may vary according to vintage, but tends to be shorter than for Versante Nord Uve Bianche. After fermentation, the wine is aged in cement or stainless steel tanks for several months before bottling.
Versante Est Carricante shows a bright straw yellow color. On the nose, it offers notes of white-fleshed fruit, citrus, wild flowers and a hint of volcanic minerality. In the mouth, the wine is fresh, savory and mineral, with a rounder, more enveloping structure than the Versante Nord Uve Bianche. The acidity is well balanced and the finish is persistent and pleasantly bitter.
