Vin de France "Ciel Rouge" 2019 Michel Autran
Vin de France 'Ciel Rouge' 2019 is a white wine from the Loire region produced using natural methods by Michel Autran. It takes its name from the French saying 'ciel rouge du matin, patouille en chemin' which means 'red sky in the morning, sailor's warning'. This is a reference to the red clay-limestone soils (aubuis) that tend to 'patouille' (become heavy and sticky) when clogged by rain.
This is a complex Chenin Blanc with good intensity, made from around 80-year-old vines from the renowned terroir of Vouvray, capable of giving good satisfaction even in a few years' time. Michel Autran's 2019 Vin de France 'Ciel Rouge' has a bright golden yellow colour, with aromas of ripe yellow fruit, honey and beeswax, dried fruit and herbaceous notes.
On the palate, it has a nice balance between a smooth texture and chalky acidity, with returns of herbaceous notes. Although vinified in the same way as 'Les Enfers Tranquilles', 'Ciel Rouge' shows more weight and depth, but is still equally taut: a classy Chenin.
